A Paint Shortage In The Country

Why are paint manufactures not producing or making enough paint to feed the demand of the country construction bomb? Paint manufactures (Dunn Edwards, Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, etc..) are not receiving the the raw materials needed to make paint. This is due to the ice storm that hit Texas early this year 2021.

Most of the petrochemicals industry is base in Texas. Petrochemical companies make some of the raw materials needed to make paint. The ice storm disrupted the chemical raw material production and network all throughout the USA. In consequence, there is a low supply of house paint and a high demand for it. This low supply high demand is being reflected on the prices of paint. DIY homeowners and painting contractors are paying more for paint materials.

If you are a homeowner planning on getting your house painted this summer, it might be a good idea to wait at least a month to see if the paint manufacture industry is getting back to normal. As of July 2021 more paint stores are staring to have more inventory but still not enough to normal levels.
